FRENCH
Being bilingual and raised in francophone countries, I have taught and interpreted languages since my college years when I began working at Berlitz. I raised three children to be bilingual. I ran and taught afterschool programs at elementary schools to expose children early to Spanish and French. I created and taught a 4-year Pashto course in language and culture at the University of Pennsylvania. I taught French language at Arcadia University and Community College. Since retiring as a contract translator, interpreter, quality reviewer and cultural expert and analyst for the government, I have been tutoring. I have been reviewed by clients on Thumbtack.com, Wyzant Tutors.com, Varsity Tutors.om, Nextdoor Media.com, and Facebook.
Today, I tutor French both to adults preparing for business or travel to France, and to middle and high school students struggling with their program.
It has been increasingly documented lately that, like crossword puzzles, learning a new language is a way of optimizing brain activity to deter symptoms of Alzheimer's Disease. Consider learning French in a private, non-competitive environment that makes you laugh feel proud.
ENGLISH - READING COMPREHENSION, ESSAY WRITING, ESL
As a writer and editor, I love working with writing and all aspects of language arts. The bottom line is if you can grasp language elements at an early age, with proactive reading skills and an understanding of how to derive an author's meaning, be it through figurative language, structure, vocabulary, inference, or other technical skills I teach my students, you can carry that understanding into your writing at the high school level and beyond. My favorite students are those who work with me long term, who start out as math whizzes and blossom into writers over time, who share a spark as they realize the the genius of the English language.
I tutor students from elementary school through college, and treasure the challenge each of their differences bring to the table.
I also work with non-native speakers on ESL, helping them with business writing, idiomatic language, test prep and just basic skills to operate effectively in the U.S.
